Double Faced Wool Fabric Supplier from China
100% Wool • Wool-Nylon • Wool-Alpaca • Ready Stock • No MOQ • Custom Development Available
We supply double faced wool fabric from Jiangsu, China. Double faced fabric is one of the most technically complex woolen fabrics to produce — two separate fabric layers woven simultaneously and joined by connecting threads, creating a structure that looks finished on both sides with no lining required. It is primarily used for premium women’s coats and high-end outerwear.
Our range covers 100% pure wool, wool-nylon, wool-alpaca, wool-cashmere, and wool-polyester double faced constructions, in weights from 700 g/m² to over 1,000 g/m². Ready stock is available with no minimum order. Custom colors and compositions are available on made-to-order basis.
What Is Double Faced Wool Fabric?
Double faced wool (also written as double-face or double cloth) consists of two separate woven fabric layers — an outer face and an inner face — held together by interlocking threads or a fine connecting yarn. The key properties that make it distinctive:
- No lining needed: Both sides are clean and finished. Garments can be made without a separate lining, reducing construction steps and giving a cleaner interior.
- Reversible: Many double faced fabrics can be worn with either face outward, giving the wearer two looks from one coat.
- Superior warmth: Two fabric layers plus the air trapped between them provide excellent insulation without bulk.
- Clean seams: The two layers can be separated at the edge and folded inward, creating self-finished seams with no raw edge — a hallmark of luxury coat construction.
- Structured drape: The weight and density of double faced fabric gives a coat natural structure and a luxurious fall without additional interfacing.
Double faced fabric is substantially more expensive to produce than single-layer coating fabric due to the complexity of the weaving process and the higher fiber volume required. It is the fabric of choice for premium European coat brands and is increasingly sourced from China at significantly lower cost than European mills.
Our Double Faced Wool Fabric Range
1. 100% Pure Wool Double Face
Our benchmark product. Both faces are pure wool, giving a genuinely luxurious hand on both sides. Available in milled (felted) and non-milled finishes. The milled version has a softer, denser surface; the non-milled version shows more woven texture.
- Composition: 100% wool
- Weight: 800–870 g/m²
- Width: 150 cm
- Colors in stock: 5+ colors including camel, black, charcoal, navy, red
- MOQ (stock): No minimum
- MOQ (made-to-order): 300 m per color

2. Wool-Nylon Double Face
Nylon (polyamide) is added to improve durability and abrasion resistance — important for coats that get heavy daily wear. The nylon also slightly improves water repellency and reduces the risk of snagging. Available in two weight options covering both lighter and heavier coat constructions.
- Composition: 80% wool / 20% nylon
- Weight: 750 g/m² and 850 g/m² (two options)
- Colors in stock: Multiple — grey, navy, camel, dark tones
- Best for: Women’s structured coats, everyday wear outerwear

3. Wool-Alpaca Double Face
One of our most premium offerings. Alpaca fiber adds exceptional softness and a subtle sheen — noticeably different in hand from standard wool. The 90/10 wool-alpaca blend keeps cost more accessible than 100% alpaca while delivering a distinctly luxury feel. Popular with designer brands targeting the premium coat market.
- Composition: 90% wool / 10% alpaca
- Weight: ~850 g/m²
- Stock: Ready goods available — multiple colorways
- Best for: High-end women’s coats, luxury outerwear brands

4. Wool-Polyester Double Face (Colorful Blends)
A more economical double faced option using wool-polyester blends. The polyester content reduces cost, improves crease recovery, and — crucially — makes it possible to achieve brighter, more saturated colors that pure wool does not take as vividly. Available in distinctive, design-led colorways including bold checks and color-block combinations.
- Composition: 70% wool / 30% polyester (standard); other ratios available
- Weight: 850–900 g/m²
- Colors in stock: 4 colorful blends including orange-red, teal, bold check
- Best for: Fashion-forward coats, statement outerwear, contemporary womenswear

5. Houndstooth Double Faced Wool
The houndstooth pattern woven in double faced construction — the pattern appears on both faces of the fabric. Classic in fashion and perennially popular for structured women’s jackets and coats. Available in traditional black-white and contemporary color combinations.
- Pattern styles: Small houndstooth, large houndstooth, broken houndstooth
- Composition: Various wool blends
- Stock: Multiple colorways — 8 options in current stock
→ 8 Woolen Houndstooth Fabrics for Jackets
6. Dual-Design Double Face (Different Pattern Each Side)
A specialized construction where the outer and inner faces have different weave patterns or colors — for example, one side in a solid and the other in a subtle check or herringbone. Gives the wearer a genuinely reversible coat with two distinct looks.
- Construction: Two visually distinct faces joined by connecting threads
- Wool content: 40–50% recycled wool + polyester (eco-option)
- Best for: Reversible coat designs, versatile outerwear collections

7. Custom Double Faced Wool Development
If our stock range does not match your design vision, we develop custom double faced fabrics. You provide a Pantone color reference (or a physical swatch), target composition, and weight range. We produce a handloom sample for approval before committing to full production. Lead time for custom development: approximately 30–45 days to handloom sample.
- Minimum for development: Commitment to production MOQ (300–500 m) after handloom approval
- Custom options: Color, composition (wool %, fiber type), weight, weave pattern, finish
- Color matching: Pantone reference or physical sample — lab dip provided for approval

How to Sew Double Faced Wool Fabric
Double faced wool requires specific garment construction techniques that differ from single-layer fabrics. Key points your pattern maker and sample room should know:
- Seam finishing: Separate the two layers at the seam allowance, trim the inner layer shorter, and fold the outer layer over to enclose the seam. This creates a clean, lining-free interior finish typical of luxury coats.
- Cutting: Cut with sharp rotary cutter or shears — pressing down firmly. The dense double layer requires more cutting force than single-layer fabric.
- Pressing: Use a pressing cloth and medium-high heat with steam. Test on a swatch first — some alpaca-blend double face can flatten under high heat.
- Needle size: Use a size 90/14 or 100/16 needle. A sharp or microtex needle works better than a universal for the dense double structure.
- Interlining: Usually not required — the double structure provides its own body. Adding interfacing can make the fabric too stiff.
If your team is new to double faced construction, we recommend ordering a 1–2 m sample for a test garment before committing to production quantities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can double faced wool fabric be used without a lining?
Yes — this is its primary advantage. The inner face is clean and finished, making an unlined coat entirely practical. Many luxury coat brands specifically choose double faced fabric to eliminate lining costs and construction steps while delivering a premium interior finish.
Is double faced wool fabric reversible?
Most double faced fabrics can technically be worn reversed, but whether a garment is designed as truly reversible depends on the garment construction — specifically whether seams, pockets, and closures are finished to look clean on both sides. For a fully reversible coat, inform your pattern maker at the design stage. Our dual-design double faced fabrics are specifically produced with reversible construction in mind.
What is the minimum order for ready stock?
No minimum — we accept orders for 1 cut (typically 0.5–1 m minimum cutting increment). For stock items, small sample cuts are available at just the courier cost.
How does double faced wool compare in price to single-layer coating?
Double faced wool is significantly more expensive per meter — roughly 2–3x the price of a comparable single-layer woolen coating, reflecting the higher fiber volume and weaving complexity. However, it eliminates lining cost and labor in garment production, partially offsetting the fabric price premium for finished garments.
Do you have wool-cashmere double faced fabric?
Yes — we have wool-cashmere double faced fabric in seasonal stock. Cashmere blends are the most premium option we offer in this category. Contact us for current availability and pricing, as wool-cashmere stock changes seasonally.
Request Swatches or a Quote
Double faced wool is best evaluated by handling a physical sample — the weight, drape, and hand of these fabrics are difficult to judge from photos alone. We recommend requesting a swatch pack before placing any production order.
Tell us which fabric types interest you (100% wool, wool-nylon, wool-alpaca, houndstooth, etc.) and your approximate weight range. We will select the most relevant current stock samples and send them via DHL.
