What Is Worsted Wool Fabric?
Worsted wool is woven from long-staple wool fibers that are combed parallel before spinning, producing a smooth, dense, tightly twisted yarn. The result is a fabric with a clear surface (no raised nap), excellent drape, good crease recovery, and a refined appearance. It is the standard fabric for suits, dress trousers, blazers, and school uniforms worldwide.
Worsted wool is distinct from woolen fabric (which uses shorter fibers, produces a softer, fuzzier surface, and is used for coats and heavy outerwear). Most men’s and women’s suiting fabric is worsted.
The Super number (Super 80s, Super 100s, Super 120s, Super 140s, Super 160s) refers to the fineness of the wool fiber — measured in microns. Higher Super numbers = finer fiber = softer, lighter, more luxurious fabric = higher price and more delicate handle. For everyday suits and uniforms, Super 100s–120s is the practical sweet spot. Super 140s and above are for luxury tailoring.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Super 100s and Super 140s?
Both refer to the fineness of the wool fiber. Super 100s uses fiber approximately 18.5 microns in diameter — excellent quality for most suits. Super 140s uses fiber around 17 microns — noticeably softer, lighter, and more luxurious, but also more delicate and expensive. For everyday corporate wear, Super 100s–120s is the practical choice. Super 140s and above are for premium tailoring.
Can I get a pure wool fabric certified for labelling?
Yes. Our 100% wool fabrics can be accompanied by fiber content test reports. If you need Woolmark certification or specific fiber content labelling for your market, let us know — we can advise on which of our products are eligible and what documentation is available.
Do you offer CMT (cut, make, trim) garment production?
Yes. We can produce finished suits, blazers, trousers, and jackets using our worsted wool fabrics. For bespoke single pieces, MOQ is 1. For production runs, 30–50 pieces per style is standard. See our garment production section.
Is your wool fabric suitable for machine washing?
Standard worsted wool suiting is dry-clean recommended. Wool-polyester blends can sometimes tolerate gentle machine wash at 30°C, but we recommend verifying with a wash test on a sample before advising your end customers. Wool-spandex stretch fabrics are generally more wash-tolerant than pure wool.
Can you develop a custom stripe or check pattern?
Yes — we can develop custom woven stripe and check patterns for made-to-order production. A handloom sample is produced for approval first. Typical MOQ for custom pattern development is 500 m per colorway.
